i love old luggage. there's something so romantic about them. there is just no comparison to the gaudy fabric & shiny hardshell suitcases that you currently find in stores. obviously vintage suitcases are not the most practical thing since they don't have wheels, long handles, & are quite heavy but sometimes form wins over practicality right?
i originally bought this 1960's samsonite train case at the rose bowl flea market & i just had to have it !! the vendor wanted $30 for it, but i talked her down to $18. i also wanted to buy a blue samsonite hardshell suitcase that i had seen earlier in the day for $40, but i was pretty exhausted by the time i found the train case & didn't want to go back for the suitcase.
i'm glad that i didn't buy that blue suitcase because a few months later lo and behold, i found the matching RED samsonite hardshell suitcase at the orange circle antique mall. it was originally priced at $44, but to my good fortune it was 50% & i was able to walk away with it for $22 !!
reunited at last.
